What Happens When Teachers Step Out of the Classroom and Onto the Stage?

At ASW, we recently learned that the answer is: magic. What started as a "what if" from our theater teacher, Nicolas Pavlos, turned into a full-scale production of High School Musical.

Not only did Mr. Pavlos spark the idea, but he also took on the lead role, showing our students exactly what it looks like to lead with passion.

But the real story happened behind the scenes. Guided by Director Emily Nail and Assistant Director Tara Hasan, the project became a massive community effort.

The show was a true cross-divisional effort, bringing together talent and energy from every corner of the school. It was teachers learning choreography from their students and staff balancing rehearsals with grading papers and coaching sports. “It was about seeing our students take the lead on lighting, props, and stage management with a level of professionalism that blew us all away.”

This show reminded us that at the core of our school is its community, where we take risks, support each other, and find joy in the unexpected. Watching the usual school hierarchies disappear as teachers and students worked toward a shared goal was a reminder of what makes our culture here so unique.

Congratulations to Emily, Tara, Nicolas, and the entire cast and crew. The applause may have ended, but the connections built behind the curtain are here to stay.
