Robotics Camp

Want to know how to creatively use the latest technology? 

At Robotics Camp at ASW, participants will learn coding and building in the fun and hands-on STEM experience of robotics. Students will build confidence, grow their knowledge and develop habits of learning. In the first week the program is built around the most recent theme-based challenge of First Lego League to engage students in problem solving, coding, and engineering. Students will be using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 brick, and coding in microPython (or visual coding based on student preference). Each week, students will be challenged in the same coding environment to apply their learned skills to the Tello Edu Drone. They will be programming drones for programmed flight through a challenge course as well as racing in teleop mode. 

MicroPython is an implementation of the Python 3 programming language that includes a small subset of the Python standard library and is optimised to run on microcontrollers. Python is one of the most popular coding languages worldwide and is agreeably the fastest growing coding language used in industries. Python is also the coding language taught here at ASW in the upper school as part of the computer science curriculum. So students will be better prepared if they intend on continuing computer science studies.

Each day will typically begin with short lessons on coding and/or mechanisms, before engaging students in coding and/or building challenges. In the afternoon, they will have build time, when they will apply what they have learned to create a robot that will perform as many tasks as possible in the most efficient manner possible.

ASW Summer School's objective is to provide a relevant learning environment that reflects the real world.
Students will learn to understand and use specific tools, to solve authentic problems, work on time-management, and to practice communication and problem solving  skills. Students will be able to make things that will both amaze them and teach them important life lessons through tinkering.
 
 At the end of the week students will test their coding and building skills in competitions.
