Wonderful Experiences

Personal Project 2023

Two big projects this week were quite spectacular.  Grade 2 was busy inventing yesterday and our MYP Personal Project exhibition was a huge success with 80+ projects on display.  In both experiences, it was amazing to see the reflection and insights gleaned from connected and personalized experiences.  Working in an extended fashion on projects like this connects learning and makes it both real and relevant for students, particularly when linking multiple disciplines.  Yesterday, I witnessed pully systems and robots, programmers and artists, all engaged in connecting their experiences to fundamental skills and talents.

We want to thank all who helped to make this a wonderful experience for all.  Parents were interwoven into these events in instrumental ways, both here and at home.  Many thanks to the PTO for their organization of treats and support for the MYP event and to the parents who worked alongside their kids in the Grade 2 "building and creating" event.  Our partnership was on full display in both experiences. Photos from the event are now displayed on the Parent Portal.

Our objective, which is associated with our Mission and Core Values, was also central to these events.  As a school, we continue the strategic journey to increase the time we spend designing our learning and managing how we achieve our goals.  As we reflect on our progress toward this goal during accreditation, please consider helping us to assure we are headed in the right direction.  We need you on upcoming reflection committees where this dialogue will help us continue on the strategic path of continuous growth and development.  Please fill out our survey and offer your time to this important process: https://forms.gle/H9xTyWze1upLvsqn8

AAIE

I'll be travelling to the annual conference of School leaders that is held each year in the United States, this year in Washington, DC.  The Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE) has been a leader in leading-edge, research-based practices in international education since 1966.  This will be my first return to this meeting since 2018 and I'm looking forward to reconnecting with long-time colleagues and mentors.  I'll return at the end of the week and hope to share some insights gleaned from this network of leaders from around the world.
